From concept to fruition of an idea takes time and this has been the case for our outdoor kitchen. However, we are now nearing the final stages of construction. We now have a roof, two opening side shutters and a sliding door into the training room. The shelving and the BBQ have been installed and the electrical work completed. Bench tops and a fridge are ready to go in next.
The parts for construction of the pizza oven have arrived and I think we need a jigsaw puzzle expert to put it together although I’m sure, with a bit of farming and engineering expertise, we will manage to complete this part of the build.
We are already planning what to plant for use on the BBQ and on toppings for pizzas. It looks ideal for sausages and salad, bacon and eggs, stir fry and chops, burgers and numerous types of pizzas. If you have any great BBQ recipes for us to try with young people, please let us know!
We plan to have a ‘thank you opening’ for all the people who have contributed funds, goods and labour to this project. We especially thank Nutriens, Kidsfix, Stocklands, Boral, Berry IGA and our volunteers, mentors and young people for their help and look forward to lots of great cook outs.
